When stubborn fat deposits just won’t budge.
Does that sound familiar? You’ve tried every diet going, and get regular exercise, but it doesn’t seem to be having any effect on those unattractive fat deposits on certain parts of your body. This is where CoolSculpting can help.
What is CoolSculpting?
The unique CoolSculpting technology is a non-surgical, scientifically proven method to reduce stubborn deposits of fat in problem zones such as the abdomen, thighs and under the chin by 20-25%.
How does it work?
CoolSculpting uses a method known as cryolipolysis. In this method, fatty tissue is “trapped” between two cooling elements that cool the fat down to 4°C, the temperature at which fat freezes. The intensive action of the cold causes the fat cells to crystallize, and they are then decomposed and removed from the body via a natural metabolic process that takes place in the liver over a period of several weeks following treatment. The final result of the fat reduction then becomes visible about 2 to 3 months after treatment.
Scientifically proven and genuine results
A study published in 2009 with the title “Clinical efficacy of non-invasive cryolipolysis and its effect on peripheral nerves” showed that fatty tissue treated with cryolipolysis was reduced by up to 25%. This result was still visible 6 months after treatment.
Possible treatment zones
Problem zones with stubborn fat deposits are particularly good candidates for CoolSculpting treatment. These are typically the abdomen, the inner and outer thighs (saddlebags), the upper arms, the bra line (women), the chest (men), the hips and flanks (love handles), below the buttocks, and on the chin (double chin). The treatment can also reduce cellulite on the legs, buttocks, and arms.
The CoolSculpting treatment
Discussion with the physician
During an in-depth discussion, the physician talks to the patient about whether CoolSculpting is in fact a suitable method for treating the problem zone, how the treatment is done, what results can be expected and the risks that could be associated with the procedure. Then the zone being treated is precisely marked so that the applicator of the CoolSculpting machine can be positioned correctly.
The physician applies a gel pad to the zone being treated. This acts as a protective buffer between the cooling element of the CoolSculpting machine and the skin to prevent cold burns. Clinical trials have demonstrated that CoolSculpting is a safe and effective method for reducing fat in problem zones.
A slight suction effect is created when the applicator with the cooling element is placed on the body.
During the treatment, sensations of dragging, slight pinching, intensive cold, tickling, stabbing, mild pain and spasms can occur which are similar to the feeling that develops when ice-cold hands or feet start to warm up. These sensations stop as soon as the treated zone reaches the required degree of coldness.
After treatment the applicator with the cooling element is removed and the treated zone is briefly massaged to loosen the treated fat cells and promote fat reduction.
What is stubborn fatty tissue?
The number of fat cells in your body is determined in childhood and puberty and changes little in adulthood.
Some people have stubborn fat deposits that are very difficult to reduce by diet or exercise.
These stubborn fat deposits vary from one person to another because we each have fat in different parts of our body.
Our top priority is safety and the reliable achievement of good results that mean a high level of patient satisfaction. This requires the machine to cool efficiently and evenly. Intuitive, user-friendly operation is also very important.
And it must be possible to work efficiently with the machine. Treating several zones at once saves time and is a big advantage for both patient and operator. In most cases it’s not just one zone but several that are treated.
Unlike other cryolipolysis machines, CoolSculpting is the only system that has received the necessary approval not only from the Swiss and European health authorities (CE certification) but also from the US regulatory authority (FDA approval). Medical authorization is so important because the strict authorization criteria ensure a substantially higher level of safety. The higher performance of the machine and more constant, even cooling mean that there are potentially also more risks, particularly if treatment is carried out by people with no medical background.
It should be borne in mind that incorrect use can lead to frozen tissue and necrosis (death of the tissue). This is why CoolSculpting is only performed by qualified physicians at Smoothline.
CoolSculpting is a safe and effective method for people with healthy/normal eating habits and an active lifestyle. CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss treatment. CoolSculpting is designed for patients whose weight is close to their ideal weight and who would like to reduce fat in one of the 9 treatment zones approved by the FDA (abdomen, hips, flanks, thighs, chest, arms, chin, back, knees).
