Botulinum toxin is a protein that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The generic term "Botox-Treatment", referred to the brand name of the first medication that contained Botulinum toxin, is commonly used for treatments with Botulinum toxin. Since the 1980’s the medical industry has been using this biologically produced polypeptide to treat various conditions. However, it’s a relatively a recent trend to use Botulinum toxin as medication to treat wrinkles, such as frownlines, or to prevent excessive armpit sweating.
