WHAT IS BOTULINUM TOXIN (BOTOX)

Botulinum toxin (Botox) is a protein that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The generic term "Botox-Treatment", referred to the brand name of the first medication that contained Botulinum Toxin, is commonly used for treatments with Botulinum Toxin (Botox). Since the 1980?s the medical industry has been using this biologically produced polypeptide to treat various conditions. However, it?s a relatively a recent trend to use Botulinum toxin (Botox) as medication to treat wrinkles, such as frownlines, or to prevent excessive armpit sweating.

HOW DOES BOTULINUM TOXIN WORK (BOTOX)

When treating facial wrinkles, the physician uses an ultra thin syringe needle to inject Botulinum toxin (Botox) precisely into the muscle tissue. The protein disables the nerve transmission to the facial muscle by blocking the release of a neurotransmitter, eventually allowing the muscles to relax. When treating excessive perspiration, the physician aims the sweat glands thus switching them into an idling state.

WHEN TO USE BOTULIUM TOXIN (BOTOX)

Botulinum toxin (Botox) has been approved for medical treatment of frown lines and excessive perspiration in armpits. It is also used to treat mimic wrinkles other than the frown lines. For wrinkles that are not caused by excessive muscular activity (such as the nasolabial folds), we recommend the use of absorbable biological fillers rather than Botulinum toxin.

HOW FAST DOES BOTULINUM TOXIN (BOTOX) WORK

Clients usually see noticeable improvements within 2 to 3 days. The maximum result may be seen within 5 to 6 weeks after the injection.
